Discipline and GuidanceDiscipline does not mean punishment. Discipline is teaching a child how to be safe, how to behave on his/her own and how to know the difference between right and wrong. The staff will use praise and positive methods of discipline and guidance to encourage self-expression and self-direction for the children at Pattie-Cake. We understand how important it is to a child’s development that they are nurtured through caring, patience and understanding. However, while caring for your children, we may have to respond to your child’s misconduct. Hitting, kicking, spitting, hostile verbal behavior and other behaviors which will hurt another child or cause harm to themselves are not permitted. In response to these behaviors, the staff at Pattie-Cake WILL NOT USE: Threats or bribes Physical punishment, even if requested by the parent Deprive your child of food or other basic needs Humiliation or isolation In response to misbehavior, the staff at Pattie-Cake WILL: Respect your child Establish clear rules Be consistent in enforcing rules Use positive language to explain desired behavior Speak calmly while bending down to your child’s eye level Give clear choices Redirect your child to a new activity Move your child to a think about it chair for no longer than one minute per year of the child’s age, if necessary If your child’s behavior is very disruptive or harmful to himself or other children, we will discuss the issue with you privately. If the situation can be resolved, the child may remain enrolled. If we are unable to resolve the issue, you may be asked to make other childcare arrangements.

Policy and ProceduresNON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY: Pattie-Cake Christian Academy admits students without regard to race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry. Students with special needs are accepted as long as a safe, supportive environment can be provided for the child, and it is determined that we can successfully meet the needs of that child within our current physical environment. PRAYER Children will be taught that prayer is simple the way we talk to God. Prayer will be incorporated into daily routines by blessing of our foods and morning circle time. Every child enrolled in Pattie-Cake must have a signed consent form on file indicating permission to participate in prayer. MEALS AND SNACKS Pattie-Cake Christian Academy participates in the USDA food program. This ensures you that your child is getting the best possible nutritious food and snacks. If your child is on a special diet or requires special food supplements, you will need to discuss those needs with the director. Accommodations will be provided for all children with food allergies. REST/NAP TIME All children will be provided with an opportunity to take a nap. We understand that that some children may prefer to rest instead of taking a nap and that is perfectly fine. EMERGENCY CLOSING Pattie-Cake follows will alert parents of emergency closing through our Parent Information App. Due to inclement weather Pattie-Cake aligns with the emergency closing of the Alachua County School System.

Dress CodeWe expect to do a good deal of painting and messy projects, so we suggest clothing than can wash easily. This way your child can enjoy the Program without being concerned about his/her clothes. Our playground is used as an extension of the classroom, and daily programs are conducted outside whenever weather permits. In order for your child to enjoy participation in the program, please have him/her dress for the weather. Please dress your child in "tennis" or "school type" shoes. No flip flops, dress shoes, jellies, cowboy boots or athletic cleats. This is for your child's safety. We ask that you leave a complete set of extra clothing, especially socks, at all times. Also, if a child is newly toilet trained, it is helpful to keep an extra set of underwear on hand. Please replace the items when they become soiled. PLEASE LABEL ALL CLOTHING WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME. The teachers are not responsible for lost or damaged articles.
